Underground Secrets of Belgrade Tour

Underground Secrets of Belgrade Tour

We will start our tour from the Republic Square and continue through pedestrian street Knez Mihailova and Kalemegdan Park to Belgrade Fortress and our first spot - Roman Well. Many legends surround the Roman Well, one of Belgrade’s most mysterious attractions. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century, during the baroque reconstruction of the fortress. The well is 51m deep, with 3m in diameter and two spiral staircases that connect at a depth of about 35 meters forming a DNA-like shape. Afterwards, we will visit the military bunker that takes us into the mid-50s and the period of the Cold War. The bunker was never used for its original purpose, but it reveals numerous secrets and political games between the Great Powers after the Second World War. Our next site that we are visiting, will be a large gunpowder warehouse, the famous Barutana with a unique archaeological collection that houses sarcophagi, tombstones, and altars from the territory of Belgrade and all of Serbia. You will have the opportunity to see Byzantine and Roman sarcophagi, gravestones, and statues in the display room of the Lapidarium. At the end of our tour, we will visit caverns where the food was stored and a wine cellar from the 19th century. We will complete this tour in a perfect way with wine tasting in an underground setting and listening more stories about unusual history of Belgrade, various human destinies, as well as legends about underground localities.
