Take a step into the world which existed more than 800 years ago!

Meet the Nemanjić Royal family, the founders of the medieval Serbian state, the builders of Serbian spiritual wealth, and the Saints of the Serbian Orthodox church. Discover UNESCO-protected heritage – monastery Studenica which was established in the late 12th century. The monastery belongs to the Serbian sanctuaries of the Valley of the Kings. It is the largest and richest of Serbia’s Orthodox monasteries which enshrine priceless collections of 13th and 14th-century Byzantine paintings.

Step inside the coronation church, Žiča monastery where 7 kings were crowned and which connects different royal dynasties and centuries. Climb the hills towards the Maglič, one of the most well-preserved and most beautiful fortifications of medieval Serbia dating from the 13th century. Enjoy the views from the top of the cliffs of the Ibar Gorge.

Word of advice: Since we are visiting churches make sure you have something to cover your shoulders and knees. Also, we will be hiking to Maglič fortress so make sure to have comfortable shoes.

Jewel-like beautiful churches in Belgrade

Milan's guide took us to five churches in Belgrade. Each church has its own architectural style, interior decoration, history of reconstruction and biography of the saint to whom it was dedicated. Looking at the churches while listening to Milan's explanations, we could see the various reasons behind the architecture and why it was shaped the way it is today. He explained not only the architecture of the Orthodox church, but also various aspects of Belgrade, such as life during the communist era and café culture. There is so much information on the internet about walking tours in Belgrade that it is hard to know which one to choose, but Milan's tour was really excellent.

Jewish tour with Mihailo

We did a private Jewish Belgrade with Mihailo. We saw a terrific Holocaust memorial statue on the Danube, the exterior of the only surviving synagogue, the inside of a small museum of Balkan Jewish history, and some other important places in what was once a thriving Jewish community. This was a worthwhile few hours of time. Mihailo did his utmost, but there’s not much to work with (compared to Prague, for example).

Extraordinary Experience!

I was on the free downtown tour on a Monday afternoon, we were four at the beginning and two at the end, so very personal. Milan is a lonely top - a gifted storyteller with a lot of esprit and in-depth knowledge: three hours of top-class education and fantastic entertainment: top recommendation!
